Demolition is set to begin Wednesday on the first of six buildings in the proposed Atlantic Yards project.
Despite much opposition to the project, developer Forest City Ratner is moving forward with its plans. The project includes a $3.5 billion NBA arena and a skyscraper complex. The Underberg building, located at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue, in Prospect Heights is the first to be demolished.
Opponents of the demolition tried to stop the process in court last month. However, a judge ruled in favor of the developer. Opponents still plan to appeal that decision.
