Demolition on the first of six buildings located in the boundaries of the Atlantic Rail Yards project is set to begin soon, despite efforts to stop the work from going forward.

Developer Forest City Ratner is currently awaiting a permit to begin the demolition in Prospect Heights. Opponents of the demolition tried to stop the work from moving forward by taking their case to court. They argued that the footprint of the project should not be changed while a state environmental review is being conducted on the area. However, the judge ruled in favor of Ratner.

The project's opponents plan to file an appeal, but that decision will most likely not happen before demolition on the first building begins.
