Demonstrators rallied in front of Rep. Nicole Malliotakis' Bay Ridge office Thursday one year after the Jan. 6 insurrection and her vote against certifying the 2020 election.
The protesters say that Malliotakis defended what they call "Trump's big lie" - referencing the former president's statements that the 2020 election was stolen.
In John Paul Jones Park, veteran and former Rep. Max Rose - who previously represented the 11th Congressional District but lost his seat to Malliotakis - stood with other veterans to denounce the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
"I think that every member of the House Republican caucus who did not vote to certify the election thereafter, that was an absolutely disgraced vote and I think that they put partisanship ahead of unifying the country," says Rose when asked about Malliotakis' decision to not certify the election results.
Malliotakis says she's previously made it clear that she did not vote to overturn the election but instead voted against certifying two challenged states and wanted to highlight the need for a proper hearing into any alleged fraud.
Malliotakis commented on the insurrection Thursday, saying it was "wrong and should never happen again."
