The Department of Sanitation could soon relax alternate-side parking rules in Bronx neighborhoods such as Throgs Neck and Pelham Parkway.
The department may cut the rules for any district with neighborhoods that consistently score 90 percent or higher on a "Clean Street Report Card." A pilot program has already been launched in one Brooklyn neighborhood with positive results, according to the department.
While many drivers agree it would be nice to not worry about constantly moving their vehicles, others disagree.
"Will [the Department of Sanitation] keep streets cleaned? And if not, will homeowners get the tickets for not maintaining the street cleaning?" Community Board 9 Chair Enrique Vega wondered.
A Community Board 12 member said she's concerned about people parking longer in the neighborhoods and taking public transportation, leaving residents to search for parking.
Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr. said he supports cutting the rules on some blocks, but feels rules need to stay in effect for well-traveled roadways.
Bronx community boards will soon take up the issue.
