The view of the Brooklyn skyline on the Williamsburg waterfront is changing fast, as a combination of rezoning and expanded ferry routes and ridership have spurred rapid development in the area, according to developers.
"It went from being an area that wasn't focused on to a destination now , on a day like today to be able to go on the ferry versus the subway; it's a game changer, said EVP for Corcoran development David Maundrell, the group behind the five-tower project known as the Williamsburg Wharf.
A total of 75 affordable units, starting at $1,800 per month (80% AMI) inside the property drew hundreds of applications and filled up fast, with the property featuring coworking areas, gyms, luxury features like a pool and doorman, as well as a short walk to the ferry for commuting to Manhattan.
"My wife works on 34th Street, catches the ferry every day to work , and the pool here is incredible view of the Empire State Building- great space to hang out," said resident Mattie Ritchie.
As part of the project the Williamsburg Wharf also created a large public place, like the outdoor terrace-like space between the properties, as well as a waterfront esplanade for those walking to the ferry.
Developers say the final tower as part of the project with an all-new supply of affordable units will be launching later this year along side market-rate units.
"I wish i had more apartments to sell, it has far exceeded our expectations in terms of how many folks that do want to live here. We need more housing. They need to continue. So, you know, all these type of waterfront, locations still need to be looked at. Rezonings need to happen so we can continue this," Maundrell said.
