DHS announces more than 2,100 arrests in 'Operation Rotten Apple'

The Department of Homeland Security says it arrested more than 2,100 undocumented immigrants across New York state during the past month as part of an immigration enforcement operation known as Operation Rotten Apple.
According to DHS, those arrested were charged with crimes, including murder, rape and drug trafficking.
The department also criticized New York's sanctuary policies, citing an executive order signed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a legislative proposal from Gov. Kathy Hochul related to cooperation between local law enforcement and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
DHS says those policies resulted in the release of 13,621 criminal undocumented immigrants from New York jails.
The operation concluded Saturday.
