Diocese of Brooklyn angered by joke on ‘SNL’
The Diocese of Brooklyn is demanding an apology following a joke made on “Saturday Night Live.”
Comedian Pete Davidson compared the sex abuse scandal of the Catholic Church to singer R. Kelly's.
"If you support the Catholic Church, isn't that the same thing as being an R. Kelly fan," Davidson said during the “Weekend Update” segment.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of Brooklyn said in a statement: "The faithful of our church are disgusted by the harassment, by those in news and entertainment, and the sketch offends millions. The mockery of this difficult time in the church's history serves no purpose."
Some neighbors also felt that the joke went too far, while others thought it was all in good fun.
"He's a comedian," one person said. "The point of being a comedian is to push that boundary."
NBC has not yet commented on the situation.
