Starting Sept. 1, high school students in New York City can take advantage of discounted fares on the NYC Ferry, a move that could provide significant savings for families.
Students who enroll in the city's Ferry Student Discount Program will pay $1.35 per ride, nearly $3 less than the regular fare, according to the city's discounted fare program.
However, it’s worth noting the New York City Economic Development Corporation recently announced that reduced fares will increase by ten cents to $1.45 on Sept. 9.
To qualify for the discount, eligible parents or guardians must create a "NYC Student Account." Students can then purchase reduced tickets either through the NYC Ferry app or by buying a paper ticket at the Wall Street/Pier 11 ticketing window.
Students must re-enroll in the program each year, and applications are currently open.
