Local politicians are calling for justice after the shooting death of unarmed 28-year-old Akai Gurley in the Pink Houses by a rookie police officer.
Elected officials from East New York and Red Hook sat down with District Attorney Ken Thompson Sunday afternoon.
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and other Brooklyn elected officials say they are confident that once all the facts are out, Thompson will do an impartial and thorough investigation into the incident.
Gurley was shot and killed by Officer Peter Liang as he patrolled a dimly lit stairwell Thursday evening with another rookie cop. Critics question the use of rookies on patrol without a senior officer.
Jeffries asks Brooklyn residents to remain calm as the investigation moves forward.
