A group of tenants in Ditmas Park expressed their frustration on Sunday after they say their building's only working elevator has been inoperable for a year now.
They say they have reached out to their landlord on multiple counts, only to be disappointed.
Anna James has lived in the building for 26 years. She says now that the elevator is broken, she feels like she is a prisoner in her own home.
James is in her 80s and says it's hard to climb four flights of stairs multiple times a day.
"I walk with a cane. It's very strenuous on me," she says.
News 12 called the landlord, Shalom Rubashkin, to get some more insight. He told News 12 the slow repairs on the repair company, the age of the elevator, and vandalism are to blame.
James says, however, that she has never seen vandalism in the elevator.
Rubashkin says the elevator will be fixed "very, very soon." But for a timeline as to what that means, he would not clarify.
