DOC: 19th Rikers Island inmate dies in custody
Another inmate at Rikers Island has died in custody at the Anna M. Kross Center, according to the Department of Corrections.

6h agoAnother inmate at Rikers Island has died in custody at the Anna M. Kross Center, according to the Department of Corrections.
The DOC says 39-year-old Edgardo Mejias died while in custody on Sunday. His cause of death is under investigation.
DOC commissioner Louis Molina says they are working to ensure that this matter is "thoroughly and completely investigated".
Mejias was arrested in October on a robbery charge.
So far in 2022, 19 people died in custody or shortly after leaving Rikers Island.
