While many residents love to slip on their flip flops and head outside in the summer, many doctors say those shoes just aren?t made for walking.
The American Podiatric Medical Association warns that wearing flip flops for an extended period of time can cause some serious foot-related issues. While doctors say flips flops are alright for the poolside or in a shower, they aren?t good for long walks.
Doctors say with a lack of arch support and cushioning, those wearing flip flops could eventually suffer from tendonitis and sprained ankles. Doctors also warn that since flip flops don?t have a lot of protective coverage, they could put people at risk for other injuries such as toe stubs or cuts.
