Doctor: Colonoscopy screenings should start at 45 years old
A doctor with Brookdale Hospital says that everyone should get a colonoscopy once they turn 45 years old.
Dr. Cynthia Quainoo of Brookdale Hospital says that a colonoscopy helps doctors find irregularities in the colon.
The American Cancer Society says that symptoms of colorectal cancer include stomach pain, rectal bleeding and unintended weight loss.
Rosa Cadle, 63, of Bed-Stuy, says her fiance has been helping her throughout her colon cancer diagnosis. She says she received surgery for her cancer in December.
Dr. Quainoo also says people should start eating more fiber, fruits and vegetables and to avoid red and processed meats.
The American Cancer Society says colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men and women.
