Parents are generally satisfied with Brooklyn schools, according to a study released by city officials.

The positive findings come from the first-ever Learning Environment Survey. The city received good grades in the areas of class size and communication. Schools were also praised for their ability to avoid a single focus on standardized tests.

Despite the good marks, Mayor Michael Bloomberg says improvements still need to be made to the education of the city?s youth.?The results underscore our belief that even though our schools have gotten better over the last five years, there's still a lot more to do,? says Bloomberg.

The mayor and other officials believe teachers need more input into decisions made between the Department of Education and city principals. That sentiment is shared by the teachers? union.

More surveys will be done next spring. Mayor Bloomberg says parents will be asked to fill out surveys and participate in the studies at regularly scheduled parent-teacher meetings.
