The Department of Education announced it is ready to begin implementing the changes brought forward by the Special Education Advisory Council.
New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks says families of students with disabilities have struggled to find high-quality programs that are close to home for too long. It's one of the main issues the department is looking to tackle by partnering with the United Federation of Teachers for an all-staff training on special education rules and regulations.
The council was established in city public schools in 2023.
