The city's Department of Education is investigating alleged grade fixing at a Gravesend school.

The investigation is centered on John Dewey High School. Officials say the school may have cut their failure rates by simply letting students pass through the "credit recovery program."

The program is designed to allow failing students to boost their grades by playing games, doing work online and taking abbreviated courses. Critics have argued that the program is not tough enough.

The DOE released a statement saying, "The integrity of our academic programs is vital to our students' success. Any findings of wrongdoing are taken very seriously and those responsible held swiftly accountable. The Department of Education is fully cooperating with the investigation."
