The Department of Transportation is hoping that new bike lanes and speed restrictions on Clarendon Road will force drivers to slow down.
DOT officials say that 86 percent of the cars that drove along Clarendon Road were speeding, resulting in numerous accidents and complaints from residents.
In addition to the new bike lanes and speed restrictions, the street is now one lane of traffic in each direction.
The city says that the new measures are also part of Mayor Bloomberg?s push to have less cars on the road and more people using bicycles to get around.
