The city's Department of Transportation is redesigning Ninth Street in Park Slope after a driver struck and killed two children crossing the street with their mothers at Fifth Avenue in March.
The improvements include wider, protected bike lanes and curb extensions.
The DOT says the new design protects the bike lane with a parking strip to keep cyclists safe and to slow down traffic.
The agency also says it has finished repaving Ninth Street and that it will start to install markings this week. It will also update parking regulations to include more daytime loading zones to discourage trucks from double parking.
The DOT expects construction to wrap up by Labor Day.
