Bay Ridge residents are voicing their concerns over an unsafe intersection that the Department of Transportation plans on evaluating. There is no traffic light, stop sign or speed bump near the intersection of Shore Road and MacKay Place, and residents say the city needs to intervene. A public park, school, bus stop and bike lane surround the area, and cars still travel well over the 30 mph speed limit. "When I was pregnant, I was riding the bike and I was actually scared even though there was a bike lane," says resident Martina Grilec. City Councilman Vincent Gentile (D-43rd District) wrote a letter to the Department of Transportation asking for a stop sign and an investigation. Transportation officials say they will determine if changes are appropriate. The agency also says it has not received a single fatality report stemming from the intersection.
