Thirty-nine people were indicted on Tuesday in connection with a credit card scam and larceny scheme that involved hundreds of thousands of dollars in retail shopping fraud.

Investigators say that the defendants spent nearly a year stealing New Yorker's identities.

"We are not only looking for bad guys that stand on the street corners, but those who stand in Macy's or other department stores and try to circumvent the system," says Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

Handguns were also found inside some defendants' apartments in Brooklyn and Queens, according to pictures that police sent to News 12. Authorities say that between May 2015 and April 2016, the defendants obtained stolen credit card information and used it to forge credit cards to purchase designer clothes and luxury goods.

The defendants are charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and conspiracy, among other charges.
