A partial roof collapse at a 64th Street woodworking warehouse in Sunset Park forced dozens to evacuate Friday.
A combination of clogged gutters and heavy rainfall Friday afternoon created a buildup of water on the roof, which forced a support beam to give out. The collapse created a 20- to 24-foot hole atop the building. Twenty-four people from the warehouse and a neighboring building were evacuated. No one was injured.
Department of Buildings inspectors were on the scene soon after the evacuations. They?re looking to see if there were any building violations that contributed to the collapse. Though there were no hazardous materials in the building, inspectors have yet to determine when it will be safe for workers to return.
