Dozens of firemen and NYPD officers are on their way to Georgia to help with search and rescue efforts ahead of Hurricane Matthew's landfall that is expected to impact the southern states.

About 45 FDNY and NYPD members make up the New York City Urban Search and Rescue Task Force that left for Georgia on Thursday and are expected to arrive today. The group will conduct water rescue operations and provide aid while working with local officials. The task force also provided boats. 

Joe Downey, an FDNY battalion chief, says the task force will stage in Georgia along with other task force groups from along the eastern coast. He says the groups will also be able to provide aid to Florida and South Carolina, depending on how the hurricane tracks.
