A P.S. 3 student was diagnosed with the drug-resistant strain of staph, the school's principal confirmed Monday.
The principal of P.S. 3 sent a letter to parents informing them of the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) case. Although the principal said she found out about the student's condition Monday morning, the custodial staff knew over the weekend and disinfected the building.
Parents News 12 Brooklyn spoke with were furious they weren't informed earlier and given the opportunity to keep their children home. Some parents demanded to know the student's identity or grade level in order to determine if their children came in contact with the potentially deadly, but treatable bacteria. The principal said she didn't know the student's identity, nor would she reveal the information if she had it.
An informational meeting for parents is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the school's auditorium.
