A powerful storm system is increasingly likely to hit late this weekend, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and coastal impacts.

The News 12 Storm Watch Team is closely tracking a developing storm system off the East Coast that could bring significant impacts to the region this weekend. This system is not expected to behave like a typical nor’easter or tropical storm. Instead, it appears to be forming as a hybrid, combining characteristics of both types of storms.

While the exact details are still being refined, early forecasts suggest the potential for heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding, strong winds capable of causing power outages and coastal flooding, along with beach erosion. Additionally, the storm may bring an abrupt end to the fall foliage season, as wind and rain could strip the remaining leaves from trees.

The timing of the storm’s arrival remains uncertain, but the most notable impacts are expected to occur between Sunday and Monday. We could see some of these conditions move into early Tuesday.

This is the latest information we have. But as new data continues to come in, the Storm Watch Team will provide updates to help residents stay informed and prepared.

Those with outdoor plans during the second half of the weekend are encouraged to consider backup options in case conditions deteriorate.
