An ongoing construction project will require residents in East New York to spend the summer without air conditioning.

In order for part of the work to be done, residents in the Linden Houses need to take their air conditioning units out of their windows.

Tenants received a notice to inform them of that the construction would be begin in May.

The work that affects six buildings and nearly 400 apartments must be done in the warm weather due to the materials involved.

Building management said they're giving everyone fans and portable air conditioning units. But not every tenant News 12 spoke with received them yet and others say it's just not enough. Other residents said the fans can only do so much.

News 12 reached out to Stanley Avenue Preservations, the company that is in charge of the building management. It said in part, "Both tenant and worker safety issues require the removal of window air conditioners from these apartments to conduct this important abatement work. We have been in regular contact with our residents throughout the process to give them ample time to prepare for this work to ensure their safety and health concerns are addressed."

The work is expected to be complete in the next five months.
