Parents expressed outrage Friday at the news that P.S. 72 will close.
The school received a ?C? on its city report card in 2007 and dropped to a ?D? in 2008. Parents say that reducing class sizes, training teachers and increasing funding are the right answers, rather than closing the school and displacing the students.
Assemblywoman Inez Barron agrees with parents that the school should remain open and believes they should have been contacted before a plan was enacted to close it.
The school will be phased out completely by 2011, when two new schools will take its place in the same building. Parents will meet on Dec. 17 to discuss ways to keep the school open.
