Eighth-graders at Achievement First East New York Middle School are learning numbers, vocabulary and sentence structure in the language.
Teacher Marcus Williams says the goal is to make students aware of other cultures.
At first, school principal Fatimah Barker says parents opposed the idea in favor of teaching Spanish. But now she says students enjoy the program.
