A 1920s courthouse in East New York is getting a 21st century makeover.

The building at 127 Pennsylvania Ave. will be turned into a large NYPD community center. Residents gathered there Wednesday to give input on what kind of recreational, academic and supportive programs they want provided.

The city-owned courthouse used to be a community center until the NYPD took it over a couple of years ago. The new plan would transform it into a 19,000-square-foot space in which children can play and hang out after school.

The $10 million renovation was made possible by the wider East New York rezoning project led by City Councilman Rafael Espinal.

There will still be an NYPD presence in the building as a way to engage with kids in the community.

The community center is expected to open in fall 2017.
