Visitors at Coney Island were surprised to find that the beach was closed for swimming on Saturday and Sunday. That's due to a high rip current risk caused by Hurricane Ernesto.
People were still in the water early Saturday morning, despite the city-wide beach closures. Some residents News 12 spoke with said they had no idea the beach was closed to swimming, as there were no signs posted.
"I don't have a problem with New York City protecting their people," Angela Jones said. "But my thing is you could have let someone know or stop us when we get there. Don’t let people come in.”
