Bronx veterans gathered at the Throggs Neck Memorial Post American Legion on Sunday to learn about plans that will provide resources to New York’s veterans.

Veterans like Phillip Cremins who served in the Army during the Vietnam War, participated in the event.

He says he was one of the lucky ones who have not had trouble navigating benefits programs as a veteran – however it hasn't been easy for others.

Across the country, 4.9 million veterans have service-connected disabilities and according to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, veterans with disabilities are disproportionately homeless.

Elected officials say they will be pushing to get the assistance veterans need.

"It's billions of dollars that are now available for these veterans,” said the senator. “We think 3.5 million veterans are eligible. We'll combine that funding with the money that we got from the PACT Act."

The PACT Act covers veterans who were exposed to toxins during the War on Terror, or anytime during their service.
