Elected officials, Community Board 9 wage war on street trash for Earth Day

A group of elected officials, their teams and community organizations took over several blocks of Crown Heights today for a war on trash ahead of Earth Day.
Multiple groups were tasked with tackling different streets picking up sticks and trash bags as part of Community Board 9's second Annual Day of Action.
The Department of Sanitation and members from the offices of the mayor, the borough president and several council members, including Rita Joseph, were all in attendance.
They had just two hours to pick up as much garbage as they could, and they didn't waste any time. They may have been in Community Board 9, but this is an issue they say impacts everyone across the city.
Participants were also giving away bags of compost made from food scraps to help grow the city's plant scape.
