Emergency management officials are offering guidance about what people should do to prepare for severe weather.
The officials say there have been more weather emergencies lately and are suggesting people should be ready all year - not just when the next weather event hits.
“Either prepare yourself for being at home for a few days or prepare a bag you can quickly take with you in case you have to leave your home," says George Contreras, of New York Medical College.
He says what most people overlook in preparing for weather emergencies is having enough cash on hand and in low denominations.
