The mother of Eric Garner was in court today demanding the disclosure of all records related to her son’s death at the hands of the NYPD.

The judge did not reach a final decision on Carr’s lawsuit demanding full access to records regarding Garner's death.

The judge says the decision will be made in stages after the Civilian Complaint Review Board provides the courts with the redacted and unredacted documents. According to the NYPD, these documents include witness names and identities.  

Carr’s counsel says this is a step in the right direction but that there is still more work to do to achieve “maximum transparency around the killing of Eric Garner”.  

Justice Erika Edwards says the next appearance in court will take place on Nov. 17, and a decision will be made on Carr’s request.
