The congregation of St. Mary Church of God and Christ in Crown Heights celebrated what could be its last day together Sunday.
The church was evicted from its Schenectady Avenue building in January and six months of fighting the motion proved unsuccessful. A judge ordered the congregation to be out by the end of the year.
The congregation has been at the location for nearly 20 years. Parishioners and preachers said they?d make the most out of their last moments in the church. Some congregants said they do not know where they are going to be worshipping next Sunday.
The pastor said the church has been searching for a new home, but it needs a lot of space. The congregation is ideally looking for a three-story building where it can house the church and a school.
