A Bensonhurst family is demanding answers after their 87-year-old father was struck and killed by an MTA bus while crossing the street.
Anna Givant says her father, Semion Givant, was on his daily walk on June 2 when a turning MTA bus hit him in the crosswalk at East 12th Street and Avenue Z.
“He survived the horrors of the Holocaust only to suffer devastating injuries on his daily walk,” Anna told News 12.
Semion Givant died after weeks of fighting for his life.
His granddaughter, Melanie, says he inspired her to pursue a career as an assistant physician. “He was the one who taught me math and science growing up,” she said.
The family’s attorney, who has known them for decades, says she plans to push for better training for bus drivers to prevent tragedies like this in the future.
For the family, remembering Semion dancing and cheering them on helps them heal.
