After years of applying for a license that would allow female EMTs in Borough Park to operate an ambulance, the group Ezras Nashim has finally secured that right.
They are calling it a breakthrough in the community. The group of women say they are trying to create an emergency health care option by women for women, and that now they finally have the ambulance permit to do just that.
The new permit will cut down response time for women who want to be treated by a licensed female EMT.
They say it has been years that they’ve sought that certificate from the New York state Regional Emergency Medical Services Council. However, they say that regardless of being denied in the past, they kept pushing.
They say that it will not only help women who are reluctant to call 911 because they’d rather not receive treatment from a male EMT, but that it creates an alternative to the Hatzolah Emergency Response Group.
The group of women say they are
raising $100,000 to buy a fully equipped ambulance themselves and finally have all the pieces they need to respond to women in need.
