Holiday magic was spread Wednesday for families currently living in public housing and shelters in Brooklyn.
The fourth annual North Brooklyn Holiday Giveback in Bushwick brought 30 community organizations and elected officials together to bring necessities and gifts to around 2,000 families.
Each family who enters was greeted with a "bounty box," which Sustainable United Neighborhoods says was filled with a whole roast chicken and produce. Kids received wrapped presents and books to take home.
“They’re here seeking a better life, and we want to support them, so we’re trying to support them through policy and advocacy,” said state Sen. Julia Salazar.
For the first time in the giveaway’s history, House of Good Deeds contributed clothing and houseware items to Brooklyn families.
