A steady flow of NYPD officers and family members gathered at Jacobi Medical Center Friday evening to pay respects to Paul Tuozzolo, the sergeant who was slain in a shootout Friday in the Bronx.

News 12 is told Tuozzolo was on the force for 18 years and would have celebrated his 19-year anniversary next month.

He was the father of two young children, both under 5 years old.

Authorities say Tuozzolo and his partner, Sgt. Emmanuel Kwo, had stopped a red Jeep that was being sought in connection to a home invasion in the Bronx. The suspect, Manuel Rosales, opened fire, fatally striking Tuozzolo in the head.

Kwo was shot in the leg and was hospitalized in stable condition. Officials say he is a nine-year NYPD veteran.

Rosales was killed by police. Authorities say he had a lengthy rap sheet and was wanted for breaking into his estranged wife's home when the shootout happened.
