Brooklyn said a final farewell to former Brooklyn Councilman and Democratic leader Lew Fidler Tuesday, who died this past weekend after suffering a massive stroke.
Family, friends, and local leaders all united at I.J. Morris Funeral Directors in Midwood to pay their respects and say their final goodbyes.
Fidler's wife Robin tells News 12 he suffered a massive stroke this past weekend right before they were about to take a family trip.
Robin Fidler says he was missing for a few hours, until they were able to locate him in the hospital. He underwent surgery but did not survive.
She tells News 12 she wants him to be remembered as a wonderful, giving man.
Many of his friends in politics were also in attendance at his funeral, honoring the man they say did so much for southern Brooklyn.
"Lew Fidler was an institution in public service in Brooklyn. He cared deeply about serving the public, he cared deeply about advancing good public policy," says Brooklyn Councilman Mark Treyger.
Fidler served as a councilman in southern Brooklyn for more than a decade, representing parts of Canarsie, Mill Basin, and Sheepshead Bay.
