The family of a 7-year girl who survived a brutal stabbing is looking for a new home before the upcoming start of school.
Mikayla Capers was stabbed 16 times in the elevator of her NYCHA residence in East New York back in June. Her friend, 6-year-old PJ Avitto, was also stabbed multiple times, but did not survive the attack.
The little girl's family says she has been staying with a relative in Queens since being released from the hospital, while her family continues trying to work with the city on a new, safe place for her to call home.
They complain that they've been back and forth with the housing authority, and were told just last week that their application had to be resubmitted.
Meanwhile, Capers made her first public appearance over the weekend at a National Action Network rally.
