The family of a 7-year-old boy in Williamsburg is thanking the FDNY for rescuing him.
On May 8, Mendy Gottlieb's arm got stuck in a roll-up gate at 50 Skillman St. while he was playing with his friends. The family says they watched as the boy was suspended in the air for about 15 minutes. The boy didn't break any bones, and his family credits that to the fire crews that rescued him last month.
On Thursday, the Gottliebs and members of the United Jewish Organization called the FDNY "heroes." Fire Commissioner David Nigro and the fire crews that responded to the accident accepted plaques from the family.
In 2012, a little boy died after getting stuck in a similar type of gate in Brownsville. The Gottlieb family feels lucky that Mendy was virtually unharmed.
A new gate was installed after the accident.
