A faulty traffic light may be to blame for a multi-vehicle accident in Brooklyn that left a pedestrian dead.
Witnesses say the light at the New York Avenue intersection in East Flatbush was frozen, showing a red signal for an extensive period of time. They say the driver of an Izuzu Trooper went through the red light Friday, hit two cars and rammed into an apartment building, pinning a pedestrian. Alextus Avolon-Tease died of her injuries after being pinned by the vehicle. Residents say the light frequently malfunctions, leaving drivers to proceed at their own risk.
The Department of Transportation says a contractor was on the site prior to the accident to make repairs. They say they are investigating the situation.
