A seven-story building partially collapsed in Morris Heights on Monday afternoon, according to the FDNY.

Fire officials say the collapse took place just after 3:30 p.m. on 1915 Billingsley Terrace.

A store below the apartment building also suffered severe damage, but everyone was out of the store by the time the collapse took place, according to the store owner.

Utility companies shut off the power and the gas following the collapse for safety purposes and Red Cross representatives are on the scene helping displaced residents. According to New York City Office of Emergency Management commissioner Zach Iscol, residents are being directed to a service center at P.S. 390 nearby for aid. There have been 101 people impacted.

Mayor Eric Adams was joined by officials from multiple city agencies for a press conference regarding the building collapse.

FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh says that the hours-long search-and-rescue operation by first responders has not revealed any injured people. The FDNY used drones overhead to look for any additional building instability and K-9 units to search for possible victims.

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson says that 52 units at the Billingsley Terrace have been evacuated.

According to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development's website, the building has 103 violations, including 48 Class C violations which are the most serious.

The Department of Buildings says that the owner of the building most recently submitted a report in March 2021 that did find unsafe facade conditions in the building, including cracked bricks. The department says work was being done on the building as recently as a few days ago.

Engineers and inspectors will get inside of the building to perform an inspection once the area has been cleared by FDNY first responders.

This is a developing story.
