Four firefighters were transported to the hospital Monday after a Coney Island store went up in flames. 

The 911 calls came in around 6 a.m. for a fire inside Bargainland on Mermaid Avenue between West 28th and West 29th streets.

Four firefighters were taken to the hospital and treated for heat-related injuries that the New York City Fire Department says they got while trying to battle flames inside a building in Coney Island.

"We had a very heavy smoke condition. Our crews worked very hard. It required the response of a fourth alarm," John Hodgins, FDNY chief of operations, says.

Luckily, he says, none of the firefighters’ injuries were life threatening.

"The main difficulty with this building was accessing the main body of fire due to it was set back on a mezzanine level and we had limited ventilation of the area, and the firefighters operated in very difficult conditions," Hodgins explains.

Hodgins adds no one was inside at the time.

No word has been given on the cause of the fire.
