Members of the FDNY gathered in Mahopac to say goodbye to local hero Lt. James Corrigan.

Corrigan, 51, had a 19-year long career in in the FDNY, spending 16 of those years at Engine 38 in the Bronx and the last three years at engine 291 in Queens. He died in January on the same day when the results of the captains’ tests were announced. His name was high on the list.

Corrigan is remembered by his colleagues as a warm and calm presence gone entirely too soon. His former captain told News 12 he was a reliable, kind man who was quick to help others.

"He helped the young firefighters that were studying for the lieutenants test. Probably because of him, a lot of guys passed,” said Capt. Peter Campbell, of Engine 291. "He was on the captains list too. Probably would been promoted. The list came out the day he passed, so he never got to see his number.”
