Dozens of people stood outside their apartment building on Prospect Place on Saturday evening as a a fire broke out on their rooftop.
“More and more firefighters started showing up, I saw like five or 10 units, it looks like it happened in the penthouse, and from the videos that I’ve seen, it’s completely destroyed," Mariano Munoz, a resident in the next door apartment building, told News 12.
FDNY officials said 12 units responded to the rooftop blaze at 545 Prospect Place just before 6 p.m. They put out the fire rather quickly, just before 6:30 p.m.
“I could see it was coming from this direction where I live. So I immediately made moves to come home and make sure my other dog that I have was safe, and it sounds like everybody is safe and sound. So that's what really matters. That's the real concern," said Lauren Zelaya, another resident.
As of Saturday night, only one injury was reported. The injured individual was taken to the hospital.
