The FDNY is sounding the alarm for better fire prevention measures in Brooklyn and the city. The chief of operations for the FDNY testified before the City Council's Fire and Criminal Justice Services Committee Wednesday. Fire officials hope two bills will pass. The measures would require that the Department of Buildings notify the FDNY when floor plans change. The other calls for floors to be numbered consecutively. Firefighters say these measures would help responders locate victims faster.
The department also hopes to have the information electronically transmitted to the FDNY.
The city's fire code is currently being revised.
