The Federal Emergency Management Agency is launching a new funeral assistance program to help those who lost a loved one due to the coronavirus.
On Monday, Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hailed the launch of the hotline, which people can now call to apply for funds.
Families can receive up to $9,000 per burial and up to $35,000 per household.
Local leaders say this is a program that has been needed for quite some time and that it will make a difference for many.
Applicants must call the hotline to apply at 844-684-6333. The line is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
