The accident happened at 1:30 a.m., according to police. They say the car struck a light post while traveling eastbound on Fountain Avenue.
A woman woke up from the noise of the impact and called police. She says a panicked passenger was able to get out of the crashed car before emergency personnel arrived moments later.
Some residents attributed the accident to speeding and say that there are not enough speed limit signs in the area. Residents say speeding and drag racing are ongoing problems in the area.
