A food pantry is now open to families of P.S. 161 in Crown Heights.
The pantry, which is run by the staff of the Crown School, opened on Friday and parents were able to receive kitchen staples.
The pantry will be open every other Friday, with pick-up times available between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Parents will be required to sign up before stopping by.
While the pantry is only open to the school community for now, those running it hope to expand.
"I always want to be in a position to help my community, help the kids who look like me and help those in need because if you're blessed, you have to bless others. I'm really big on that," said community school director Ethan Hodge.
About four outside organizations donated, but most donations came from within the school.
The school is currently looking for other donors.
